The Guardia Civil found over 200 kilograms of tobacco, 4,300 counterfeit cigarette packs, and machinery for rolling and packaging illegal tobacco which was being sent to Germany and Poland.
The two detainees are facing charges related to smuggling, intellectual property, against public finances, against public health, document forgery, and money laundering.
The Guardia Civil has arrested two individuals for manufacturing cigarettes with illegal tobacco in a residence in Busot (Alicante). At the residence, agents discovered a surprising amount of tobacco and machinery for its production. The illicit products were primarily sent to Poland and Germany. The detainees face charges of smuggling, intellectual property, against public finances, against public health, document forgery, and money laundering.
After receiving a report of a possible robbery at a residence in a residential area in Busot, the agents found an open window and inside, a large number of packages and machinery for cigarette production.
In the subsequent search, the agents found 17 boxes with 202 kilograms of tobacco, 4,368 counterfeit tobacco packs to be filled, 3,640 boxes with tubes ready to be filled with tobacco, and 307 grams of marijuana.
Additionally, they seized a machine for sealing tobacco packs and another valued at over twelve thousand euros, designed to roll, tube, and fill with shredded tobacco at a speed of up to 12,000 cigarettes per hour.
To carry out the smuggling, they manipulated the product by counterfeiting a well-known tobacco brand. The resulting product was mainly sent to Poland and Germany.
The Investigation Court No. 2 of San Vicente is the designated body overseeing the judicial proceedings.
This intervention carried out by the Main Office of the Guardia Civil in San Juan has allowed the removal of a large number of cigarettes that could have had serious consequences for public health, as they did not undergo mandatory health checks.
