The Mijas Lights Experience Brings Christmas Cheer To The Costa Del Sol

As reported this Thursday by the City Council, the municipality of Mijas will celebrate Christmas on Friday, December 1, with the official turning on of the lighting. This year, there will be 3.5 million low-consumption LED points that will light up more than 30 streets in the three towns.

Consequently, a children’s performance is scheduled at the Plaza de Tenencia of the Mayor’s Office of La Cala at 6:00 p.m., and this Friday at 7:00 p.m., the Christmas lighting will be lit on the Bulevar de La Cala.

The City Council has specifically said that more than thirty streets, squares, municipal buildings, and roundabouts would have 3.5 and a half million LED points installed as part of this year’s lighting.

In the case of Mijas Pueblo , Osunillas, the Plaza de la Constitución and the streets Carril, Compás, Caños, Málaga and San Sebastián will be illuminated. Regarding La Cala de Mijas, Cártama, Antequera, Marbella, Torremolinos and Torreón streets will be illuminated. 

As for Las Lagunas , the Miguel Hernández, Mijas Alta, Mijas, Los Lirios, Margaritas, Andalucía, Camino de Coín, Camino de Campanales, Camino del Albero avenues, the La Cala and Mijas squares, the park next to the parish will be illuminated. San Manuel, Doña Ermita and the district’s roundabouts. The streets that will have Christmas lighting are María Zambrano, Vicente Aleixandre, San Javier, Antonio Machado, Virgen de la Paz, Virgen de la Concepción, de la Unión, Río Aguas, Río Las Pasadas, Denmark and those surrounding Corte Inglés.

However, the City Council has planned a full schedule of events to celebrate Christmas, beginning with a Christmas snack on Sunday, November 26, at 5:00 p.m.

The Council is working with the Federation of Associations of Mijas and the Mibu Cultural Association to organize this event.

The Cortijo Don Elías will host the free event, which features performances by the chorus Unión del Cante, the pastoral groups El Camorro and La Paz, plus chocolate and Christmas candies.

From December 1 to 17, the Plaza de la Constitución in Mijas will host a Christmas market in which there will be no shortage of traditional products. On Sunday, December 3, at 5:00 p.m., the Las Lagunas Theatre will hold a Christmas concert for seniors with free admission until capacity is reached. Additionally, on the 16th the Mijas Music Band will do the same in the Plaza Virgen de la Peña, at 7:00 p.m. 

Santa Claus’s village will be set up in the Butibamba park in La Cala, the Andalucía park in Las Lagunas, and the Virgen de la Plaza. Workshops on various themes will be conducted by elves and other traditional Christmas figures. Peña in Pueblo de Mijas.

Another event on the schedule is “Christmas City with Royal Postman,” which includes free inflatable games for all visitors and a Royal Postman station that will gather the letters kids send to the Three Wise Men of the East. This Christmas City will be located in the Plaza Virgen de la Peña in Mijas town, Butibamba park in La Cala, and Fernán Caballero park in Las Lagunas.

The Plaza Virgen de la Peña in Mijas will host a large tent with a stage where different groups from across Andalucía municipalities will perform.
