Tragic news from Granada this weekend, where a 52-year-old mountaineer hailing from Malaga lost his life in a horrifying fall from a frozen slope approximately 70 meters high in the municipality of Dílar. Emergencies 112 reported on Monday that the incident unfolded at around 5:15 p.m. on Sunday, following a distress call alerting authorities to the climber’s fall in the challenging-to-reach Tajos de La Virgen, part of the Sierra Granada.

According to the Guardia Civil, the accident occurred as the 52-year-old victim, a resident of Malaga, tumbled down an icy slope on the peak, which stands at an altitude of 3,000 meters.

In response to the incident’s complexity, medical personnel and eight specialists from the Mountain Rescue and Intervention Group (Greim) were dispatched to the location. Regrettably, upon reaching the scene, the agents confirmed the mountaineer’s tragic demise. Sources revealed that the evacuation process required the use of snow grooming machinery from the Sierra Nevada station. Subsequently, the judicial protocol was activated to investigate the circumstances surrounding this unfortunate event. Our thoughts are with the family and friends affected by this heart-breaking incident. 🏔️😔 #MountainTragedy #Granada #StaySafeOutdoors
