Thousands will litter the streets for the ‘big switch on’ of the annual Málaga Christmas light show

Malaga is well known for its vibrant Christmas celebrations. The city’s Christmas lights are one of the highlights of the festive period, particularly those in Calle Larios, which are world-famous for their spectacular light and sound show.

The Malaga Christmas lights switch-on will be on Friday, November 24, 2023, at 7 pm. The display will feature 16 celestial angels on 32 columns stretched along the entire length of the street . The design for 2022 was called “16 Celestial Angels” and consisted of the angels supported by 32 columns. The light and sound shows take place at 6:30 pm, 8 pm, and 10 pm every evening except December 24th and 31st until January 6th.

In addition to Calle Larios, the Alameda Principal also takes centre stage with a ton of LED lights (270,000 to be exact!) in the ficus trees, which will be on all day and all night. Furthermore, there will be a light show with drones at the Palmeral de las Sorpresas, the Plaza de la Marina, Muelle Uno, and Gibralfaro, as well as a video mapping show on the cathedral tower.

120 drones will be providing some festive fun over Malaga Port at 8.30pm on the following dates: 3, 4, 6, 7 and 9 December and on 23 December at 7.30pm. The best place to see the drones doing their thing is from the Palmeral de las Sorpresas, Plaza de la Marina, Muelle Uno and from the walkway up to the Gibralfaro.

If you’re planning to visit Malaga during the Christmas season, you can immerse yourself in the festive atmosphere, as dazzling displays and captivating designs illuminate the streets. Experience the magic of the season by exploring the city’s Christmas markets, enjoying the Christmas ballet, and indulging in the local cuisine.

Your heart will undoubtedly be gladdened by the harmonic experience created by the lights dancing to the upbeat music. You’ll feel a sense of happiness, amazement, and community as you stroll down this gorgeous street with strangers, friends, and family.

TIP: Remember to take a camera or use your mobile phone to take pictures as many famous city landmarks will be decorated with lights and video projections.
