At least one person died and nine people were injured in Kansas City during a Super Bowl victory parade. Local Police say they have detained “two armed individuals.”

Several shots were fired this Wednesday, February 14, in Kansas City during the parade celebrating the Chiefs’ victory in the Super Bowl, as reported by the city police in the United States. At least one person is dead and nine injured, according to the Kansas Fire Department.

“There were shots fired near (the train station),” stated the Kansas City police on their social media account. “Authorities are trying to ‘determine the number of victims’,” they added.

The incident occurred in the location of Union Station, the cities central railway station. “Two armed individuals” have been arrested for the parade shooting, said the Police.

Minutes before the incident, a bus carrying players – including singer Taylor Swift’s boyfriend, player Travis Kelce – toured the city streets to celebrate with fans.

Thousands of fans had taken to the streets on Wednesday to honour the Chiefs, NFL champions, after winning Super Bowl LVIII last Sunday. The victory parade traversed the streets of Kansas City, Missouri, and concluded at Union Station in the city center.

Last Sunday, the Kansas City Chiefs defeated the San Francisco 49ers 25-22 in overtime for their second consecutive NFL title, third in the past five years, and fourth in their history. Below, American news outlet ABC reports on the incident at the Kansas City Super Bowl Victory Parade.
